Pros
Improved overclocking Unlocked chips Better memory and cache performance Includes CPU cooler with RGB lightingCons
Lacks Integrated graphics Slower clock speeds as compared to Intel Draws lot of energy on full load, temperatures become highRyzen 7 2700X belongs to Ryzen 2nd generation processor series and it is the most significant processor in this category. The 2nd generation processors are bigger and better , they promise some great and exciting features giving a strong competition to Intel 7th generation processors.
Ryzen 7 2700X introduces following features:
- 12nm architecture , first time in consumer CPU’s market,
- Higher clock speeds with base clock of 3.7 GHz and turbo of 4.3 GHz
- Reasonable pricing as compared to Intel i7 8700K: Ryzen 7 2700X costs $329 while i7 8700K costs $349
- Package includes Wraith Prism, a premium RGB CPU cooler
- Simultaneous multi threading and better overclocking
- Unlocked multiplier for easy overclcoking
- Works with existing X370 motherboards, no need to purchase new motherboards
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Key Features
The AMD Ryzen 7 2700X brings new architectural improvements over its predecessors. The major features are mentioned below:
Precision Boost 2
The older technology Precision Boost determines how fast each core of processor chip should be running based on the workload. So, when a given core will be assigned with a task, it will bump the base speed to the maximum turbo speed i.e. getting maximum speed from the processor when required. This older technology had a limitation: if more than 2 cores were demanding processor time then it would automatically boost speed of slower core only leaving behind the other core.
But with arrival of Precision Boost 2 the processor tries to constantly run each core as fast as possible whenever required, it will on;y reduce clock speeds of temperatures are becoming high or due to some other specific reason. So for multi-threaded tasks like video encoding – a better performance will be observed.
XFR2
The older version XFR could boost clock speed of two cores in increments of 25 MHz till maximum of 100 MHz above the rated boost clock speed (only if conditions allowed). With new version of XFR i.e. XFR2 the same concept now can be applied to all cores.
Introduction of 12 nm architecture
The previous generation Ryzen processors were built on 14 nm process but the new generation use 12nm process. This process has been introduced for first time in consumer market of CPU’s. The smaller transistor chip makes use of lower power usage and allows processor chips to be made from silicon wafer, hence reducing manufacturing costs per chip.
Wraith Prism Cooler
Ryzen 7 2700X package includes a wraith prism cooler which was missing in the previous AMD generations where user had to buy their own coolers. Wraith prism cooler has a hefty copper base and uses four heat pipes to withdraw heat to a thin metal radiator, while switching between high and low fan speed modes.
X470 motherboard
With the launch of Ryzen 2nd series motherboards, AMD has specified that all the new processors will work with existing X370 motherboards. Ryzen 7 2700X will continue to work with existing X370 motherboards but clock speeds may be slightly reduced to keep up the power delivery.
That is why to keep up all the parameters at par, AMD has introduced new X470 motherboard which brings faster memory and speed upto 2933 MHz. The major advantage of X470 motherboard is its new store MI technology which allows user to combine SSD and hard drive into one virtual drive making easy to keep track of all your files.
