Description
Pros
Stunning multi-core performance Strong frame ratesCons
Limited PCI and SATA ports Not great at overclockingRyzen 7 1800X is built on AMD’s AM4 interface which enhances capabilities of processor to beyond its limits. Through AM4 interface , Ryzen 7 1800X offers 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes, four lanes of 2nd generation PCIe for SATA 6GB/s , four USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and DDR4 dual memory channel. In addition it has 8 cores, 16 threads, base speed of 3.7 GHz which can turbo to 4.0 GHz and a TDP of 95 W.
Ryzen 7 1800X belongs to AMD’s Summit Ridge family with Zen Core architecture (14nm) and it is complete SOC(system-on-chip). With 8 CPU cores, cores are divided into groups of two with four cores each which are called quad-core complex (CCX). Every single core in CCX can be disabled and does not share anything apart from L3 cache which is 8 MB. However, the two CCX units can communicate with each other over AMD Infinity Fabric.
AMD Ryzen 7 1800X Key Technologies
The AMD Ryzen 7 series processors uses SenseMI suite which is a combination of five technologies due to which Ryzen 7 series processors can adjust their power consumption and CPU performance on a real time basis. The five key SenseMI technologies are mentioned below:
-
Pure Power
In AMD’s Zen architecture 1000 sensors are employed with specifications 1mA, 1mV and 1 C . The feature of pure power adjusts these voltage, temperature and voltage on a real time basis based on AMD’s learning algorithms
-
Precision Boost
Precision Boost adjusts the speed of each core of processor to minimal settings based on the information provided by Pure Power. The speed gets increased in steps of 25 MHz. For Ryzen 7 1800X Precision Boost will increase the speed from base speed of 3.6 GHz to 3.7 GHz for all cores and two cores can turbo boos to 4.0 GHz.
-
XFR (Extended Frequency Range)
As explained in Ryzen… XFR will adjust the clock rate of processor above the Precision Boost clock if thermal conditions of processor are suitable. For Ryzen 7 1800X XFR will increase its speed by 100 MHz if thermal cooling is in place.
-
Neutral Net Prediction
Neutral Net Prediction technology learns application behavior and pre-load instructions with a built-in neural network before they are required.
-
Smart Prefetch
Smart Prefetch pre-loads data into local cache based on their access patterns.
Motherboard Chipsets
With the launch of AM4 interface, five chipsets have been released for Ryzen 7 series X370 for high-end desktops , B350 for stable performance , A320 for low cost desktops, X300 and A300.
